LBJ Library + Museum

Strong, sturdy, stable. Remarkably reminiscent of LBJ himself.

Everything about the architecture paralleled so beautifully the personality of the thirty-sixth president of the United States.

It was clean, simple, and to the point—so was he.    It was monolithic and imposing—so was he.

With the exception of the deeply unsettling animatronic, the space felt reverent and memorializing, not just of President Johnson, but of all the lives both touched and lost in his time at the white house—a piece of which you can find in the top of the cubic slate, but only at 7/8ths size. This—the only exception to the overall theme of “big” in the museum.

Big personality.           Big impact.                  Big guy.

Creating a monument to a leader is challenging enough, but on top of that the added component of creating a storage unit, an aesthetic storage unit, and research archive of everything they ever said or did, at least for six years.

What’s left behind when you leave a presidential office? Hopefully the satisfaction of job well done and a thriving nation.

What’s left after you die? Hopefully a legacy of kindness and generosity.

What’s left of President LBJ? ……..a LOT of audio tapes.
